adelaide hills, south australia
Waking up in an autumn olive grove in the Adelaide Hills was such a magical morning for me on my first solo roadtrip in Australia. I began my trip in Sydney, stopping in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, and then making my way through the upper countryside of the state of Victoria, driving for hours and hours through tunnels of gum trees. After stopping in Grampians National Park for a night, I made my way into South Australia to Adelaide before taking a ferry over to my final destination, Kangaroo Island. I drove over 1,500kms in the span of about a week in my new campervan, which did great overall, aside from needing an oil top off. This roadtrip was definitely a learning process for me, as I got more familiar with finding free campsites, navigating the roads, and stocking up on supplies needed in between long stretches of road. This trip was also filled with emotional highs and lows. It is so exhilirating to travel this way, but it was also extremely scary for me at times, sleeping in new and unfamiliar places in the wilderness each night, by myself. However, I was very lucky to stay at a handful of beautiful free campsites, this olive grove camp being my favorite of the trip.
